| The Panasonic TH-50VX100e is a full high definition plasma monitor to front AV systems deserving nothing less than the best screens possible. |
|
AV Forums.com review.

The screen is 50"/1269mm diagonal with an actual screen size of 1106 x 622mm and resolution is full HD, 1920x1080 as you would expect of a screen in this class.
That is about as much as it shares with other screens in the Panasonic range other than its big brother the TH-65VX100. From there out this is an all new beast.
The chassis has a slender black surround with gentle sculpting to provide an easy to live with structure around the massive screen. This includes a depth of only 94mm, impressive for a screen this size and means it does not intrude too much when surface mounted.
Contrast is listed as a native 40 000:1, not a dynamic level achieved by wizardry and processing but an actual ratio from this new panel.
As we all know the technical specification is only half the story, the best way to judge the screen is to view its performance in a situation you would normally use it in. I.E. How does it look with video not just a test disc.
This is where the screen really shines. All manner of adjustments are available to enable you to precisely match the performance to the source material, playback device and installation area. Basic adjustments are available for brightness etc but there is an advanced setting that is a must for any true customisation.Settings in here for video include:-
- Black
- Gamma input level
- AGC (increases brightness of dark level)
- White balance: high+low R, G and B settings
- Cinema Reality: for 24p material
- Noise reduction settings
The internal scaler does a fine job of adjusting the incoming signals to the resolution of the screen but if you wish, this can be bypassed - turned off completely - and an you can employ your choice of external scaler instead.
After making adjustments you can store the settings for later recall. There are 16 memories available to store different settings for different source material so the screen can perform to its maximum level no matter what is being shown.
Black level is very strong and colour rendition impressive. Motion is controlled by the extensive technologies used in the Panasonic TV series resulting in very smooth flowing, bright clean images. This is no ordinary screen in terms of performance, build or look. All are very impressive and it is strongly recommended you add this to your shortlist.
PC connection is available as well via a 15pin VGA socket. Accepted signals range from VGA to compressed UXGA. See below for more details.
Connectivity is a strong point with the 50VX100 as well. There are three terminal slots on the rear of the screen that can house a variety of connection plates but out of the box they are filled as follows.

The remote control looks like a TV remote control and will also operate Panasonic or other brands of VCR, DVD and cable/satellite box. Simply enter the 4 digit code relating to that brand and the inbuilt database will provide the control.
