The RS2321X8 is a serial router allowing control of up to 8 devices from a single RS232 or RS422 device.
Ports can be selected by sending a serial command via either the RS232 port, RS422 port or through the wired IR connection. Once selected the serial communication allows for a 2-way signal flow, feedback information can then pass through the RS2321X8 back to the control device.
Four of the connections are RS422. This RJ45 terminated signal can run for up to 4000' on cat5 before being terminated by another RJ45 plug. Use a RS422232 converter to then return to a RS232 signal.
The other four connectors are standard DB9 connected RS232 ports.
(The input selection of RS422 or RS232 is made by a three-pin terminal jumper.)
Attaching the unit to a MRC88 multiroom controller or SmartPad SPLCD touchscreen expands the control opportunities of these devices or the unit can operate in stand alone mode on any serial system.
If using with a MRC88 or SPLCD then they require configuring in their Dragon drop setup software.
In stand alone mode the ports can be switched by programming with a RC68+ Xantech programming remote. The unit can be set to different code groups meaning multiple units can be used side by side.
The RS2321X8 can also be used in reverse allowing multiple serial controllers to connect up to one device. If, for example you needed control of a DVD player by several SPLCD touchpanels and a handheld touchscreen remote, they could all be connected to the RS2321X8 and their signals combined into the single output controlling the DVD. Simply send an IR code to switch the port to the required serial input, then send your serial command.
