The CARA (project name for the S-5BD) draws on video and sound technology developed for the high end of Denon's range and marries this with a highly accurate playback mechanism.
Amplification is provided internally for 5 channels but the processor can decode 7.1 material and provides a pre out for the additional two channels. The number and characteristics of the attached speakers are automatically detected and the CARA set up to provide optimum results for the room you are using and the source currently playing.
iPod input via USB on the front panel means the data is streamed directly into the processor and amplified. This reduces the number of D/A converters needed and along with the compressed audio restoration circuit provides high quality playback from iPod.
Naturally 1080p/24 playback from BD is available and scaling of SD material to 1080p. Mechanically the S-5BD keeps signal paths short and uses direct mechanical grounds plus rigid construction in an effort to provide the best possible reproduction from all the sources.
Should you want, there is a second zone output, pre-out and composite video. Enabling signals to be sent to another amplifier in another room independently from the activities in the main area. An IR input jack means control signals can be routed to the machine through third party systems and a serial connection allows for control from more advanced systems. Pronto, Crestron, AMX etc.
